A busy day in camp

Mounting of the large satellite receiver disc has begun.

Luckily, weather improved today so we could receive the skier.
Despite the excellent state of the skiway a couple of days ago, all the fresh snow from yesterday’s snowfall and the high temperatures made it difficult for the skier to take off. It had to leave the cargo behind, but all passengers could stay on the plane.
Now Niccolo is out grooming the skiway, so that hopefully we can do better tomorrow when the next skier arrives.
Camp is full of activities: the new satellite receiver is being assembled on a sledge on the hill, the food storage is being stuffed, and all kinds of exciting equipment is being unpacked. Camp population 21.

What we have done today:

  1. Received Skier 61 and gave 6 DVs a tour of camp
  2. Started setting up satellite receiver
  3. Resampled snow surface profile in the clean snow area
  4. Unpacked 4 cargo pallets with food and equipment
  5. Measured open snow surface roughness
  6. Groomed skiway

Weather today: Overcast in the morning but improving and sunny in the afternoon. Temperature -8°C last night increasing to -4°C in the afternoon and dropping to -11°C late evening. Wind 4-12 kt from W dropping to almost 0 kt at night.
