Ready for a 12 km skidoo trip from camp

Goodbye to the EGRIP camp.

The ice margin on the side of the NEGIS ice stream is very special with a 10-20 m surface depression along the side margin. To investigate the margin a cryo-egg will be placed in a 11 m deep borehole drilled a few weeks ago.
Nanna, Iben and Josefine took off after lunch, found the borehole and placed the cryo-egg at the bottom. Unfortunatly, there was some problems with the electronics and we will need to go back to the site in a few days. The skidoo team was back in camp for dinner.

What we have done today:

  1. Resampled snow surface profile in the clean snow area
  2. Dug and sampled from 3-4 m in the Japanize snowpit
  3. Made new tables for the main Dome
  4. Found and assembled the base frame of the third garage tent (the RECAP drill tent)
  5. Safety briefing for all in camp
  6. Trip to the side margin of the ice stream to place the cryo-egg in the 11 m deep borehole

Weather today: Partly medium high clouds all day. Temperature -10°C last night increasing to -4°C in the morning. Wind 10 kt from NW all day dropping to 4 kt from W in the evening.
