CryoEggs

One of the new projects in camp is the testing and development of Cryoeggs by Liz Bagshaw. The ‘ice-eggs’ contain loggers of temperature, pressure and electrical conductivity and a radio transmitter. This year we will test how well the signal is transmitted from the egg to the antenna first on the surface as you see on the picture and in a few days we will lower it into the deep borehole to test the transmission and how the eggs cope with the drill liquid. It is our hope the eggs can be developed for basal observations in a few years when we reach the bedrock at EGRIP.

What we did today:

  1. Deep drilling core length at 19.00: 11.88 m.
  2. Drillers depth at 19.00: 722.88 m.
  3. Water vapour, methane, aerosols, snow and boundary layer measurements
  4. Physical properties measurements.
  5. Water isotope sampling for sublimation studies.
  6. Checker Tobi filming and Asahi Shimbun reporting.
  7. Cryoegg experiments
  8. Preparation of the GPS and Drone research
  9. Fuel mission to EGRIP. We received 11.725 l of fuel

Weather: Sunny to overcast with winds 6 m/s increasing to 9 m/s at noon and decreasing to 6 m/s in the evening all from SW and temperatures from -16°C to 0°C.
