Day two at EGRIP. A fine day for camp opening

Small incident of the day: Coffee machine needed fixing (J.P. and Sverrir).

The night was nice and warm for everybody. People were ready for work at 08.00. The nice weather from the day before continued, so we accomplished a lot.
Right now, our focus is to get all camp infrastructure activated and building shelters, in the form of weatherports, for ourselves and 7 + 3 more people who will arrive at EGRIP next week.

What we did today:

  1. Pulled all weatherports to camp and placed them at construction sites.
  2. Started Pistenbully 2 and Caterpillar.
  3. Removed tracks from the put-in flight on skiway and apron with groomer. Groomed also Weatherport construction sites.
  4. Finished Weatherports 9, 8 and 4. Weatherport 3 is under construction.
  5. Temperature in main dome are normal room temperature. Main dome heated inpart by a Webasto system and the cooks stove.
  6. Established satellite link (Open port) and phone to the outside world.
  7. Removed snow around main dome and pulled main generator into position.
  8. Opened cooks freezer.
  9. Opened access to drill trench.
  10. Pulled satellite dish into position.

Weather today: Mostly sky clear with some scattered clouds. A little snow drift in the morning; but this stopped as the wind eased off in the afternoon. Temp. -12°C to -19°C. Wind: 18 kt – 9 kt from WSW. Visibility: Unrestricted.
