This weekend Polar 5 arrived twice

Polar 5 landing on the EGRIP skiway.

We have really good flying weather these days, and Saturday Polar 5 arrived from Kangerlussuaq with cargo and five new members of the EGRIP team. We said hello to: Angelika, Ole, Iben, Johannes and Bruno. The plane returned to Kangerlussuaq with ice cores. Sunday Polar 5 arrived again with cargo and three new members of the EGRIP team: Steffen, Maria and Richard. Including the crew of Polar 5, we are now 24 in camp.
Tomorrow, Polar 5 will fly to Kangerlussuaq to pick up cargo and passengers and then it will return to EGRIP. Polar 5 will operate out of EGRIP the rest of May. Saturday, Dorthe, Nicolai, Frederik and Jens Christian made a really nice evening dinner and everybody enjoyed the evening off.

What we did Saturday and Sunday:

  1. Groomed skiway and apron.
  2. Handling and fueling two Polar 5 flights.
  3. Briefings of arriving crew.
  4. Maintenance stop on main generator. One circulation pump for heating exchanged.
  5. Assembling the DK shallow drill for the AWI shallow coring program.
  6. Re-survey of the EGRIP skiway, which moves more than 50 m towards NNE per year.
  7. Trimming of the ceilings in the snow caves.
  8. Work on setting up the isotope CFA laboratory.
  9. Outhouse no. 3 ready.
  10. A fine Saturday evening dinner.

Weather Saturday and Sunday: Sky clear. Temp. - 22 °C to -33 °C. Wind: 4 kt to 12 kt from WSW. Visibility: Unrestricted.
