Two planes operating out of EGRIP

Angelika enjoys the expanse of the Greenland Ice Sheet 20 km NNE of EGRIP while collecting P-RES radar signals.

This morning the Twin Otter from the PARCA project took off towards the East, and 50 minutes later Polar 5 took off towards NNW. A busy airport.
Lunch was almost as during the put-in with only 18 people in camp. In the afternoon, the PARCA team returned and Polar 5 returned at 2200 in the evening. There was a risk of fog, but luckily the fog stayed away so the Polar 5 did not need to spend the night at B22. Ole and Angelika went 20 km downstream and performed P-RES measurements.

What we did today

  1. The PARCA team made a successful maintenance visit to the weather station at NASA-E.
  2. The Polar 5 AWI team went to B22 (79o 18’ 35.6’’N,45o 40’ 26.3’’W) and drilled a 38.73 m deep shallow core.
  3. Station for atmospheric moisture sampling and isotopic measurement is now active.
  4. The isotope CFA laboratory measured: bags 2060 – 2075 (1132.45m to 1141.25m, end of brittle zone) and 2561-2573 (1408.00m to 1415.15m).
  5. Work on getting the drill ready.
  6. Routine maintenance on main generator and repairs on Yanmar snow blower.
  7. Excavated 5.5 m test hole to 4.5 m with PB snow blower.
  8. P-RES radar survey 20 km NE of EGRIP completed.
  9. Work on getting the drone ready.
  10. Test wind turbine base is up. Measurements on base. Turbine will be mounted tomorrow.

EGRIP population is 32.

Weather today: In the morning fog, later fine with blue sky, in the evening thin over cast. Temp. - 10 °C to -23 °C. Wind: 7 kt to 2 kt from WSW. Visibility: During fog 200m otherwise unrestricted.
