Camp ready for overwinter

Jonathan, Sepp and Sverrir scaling the last pallet.

The weekend went into the really intense phase of packing the camp and making it ready for overwinter. The Dome and Garage tents are now standing alone on the white surface. Regardless of the more and more primitive conditions we had a good Saturday evening eating the basil grown in the cupola.

What we did during the weekend:

  1. Groomed skiway.
  2. Cleaned ice and snow around main cooks snow melter and cleaned them inside.
  3. Removed polar bear radar from roof.
  4. Configurated Ceilometer for fast take down August 14th.
  5. Built the last pallet.
  6. Parked crane and new cabin PistenBullies in carpenter and mechanic garages.
  7. Moved generator and other sledges to winterhills.
  8. Moved 2 pallets on drums for overwinter.
  9. Documented Dome and Mechanic garage.
  10. Changing to secondary generator and preparing Webasto in Dome for arrival next year.
  11. Drone documentation of winterhils and overwintering pallets.
  12. Placed water melters on pallets for overwinter.

Weather: Overcast with spells of blue sky and snowfall. Wind 20 kt gusting 25 kt decreasing to 3 kt from WNW on Saturday and between 2 kt and 6 kt turning to WSW on Sunday Temperatures between -14°C and -6°C.
