A busy day in the airport

The Danish shallow drill in action: Malte, Trevor (in the hole) and Dennis.

With the Twin Otter stationed here and with LC-130 flights from Kangerlussuaq, we have coordinated the flight schedules. The twin Otter left at 8.30 in the morning and did not return until 13.15. In that time interval we received an LC-130 flight with cargo and some visitors.
Joel left camp today and we said good bye to him. The plane also carried half of our balloons back to Kangerlussuaq and all the snow and ice samples that have been collected in the past month.
Later, the twin Otter made a second flight to the site of this morning to retrieve the rest of the equipment. Everybody had a busy day after a slow start as it was Sunday morning. Levelling the floor in the science trench goes fine, and soon we will be able to setup tables and band saw for ice core processing.

What we have done today:

  1. Handling two Twin Otter missions for the Nettles group.
  2. Receiving Hercules flight (Skier 11). Goodbye to Joel.
  3. Leveling floor in science trench and hauling snow to surface.
  4. Work at Swiss drill test site.
  5. Light grooming on skiway.
  6. Drilling pilot hole for Swiss test with Danish shallow drill.

Ad. 1: The Nettles group successfully retrieved the seismic station at the ice divide 200 km North of Summit.

Weather today: Alternating between cloudy and sunny all day. Temp. -17°C to -20°C. Wind 12 kt from WNW. Visibility: Mostly to horizon.
