Vapor tower goes down

The vapor tower is on the way down.

Yesterday the vapor tent with the PICARRO was packed, today the vapor tower went down. Sverrir assisted Diana with the crane of the PistenBully to take the tower down. The vapor and snow sampling program has been the longest lasting science program of the 2016 season. Thanks to all the many dedicated scientists that have helped out sampling snow and measuring surface elevation along countless lines and stakes. We have decided that HC and Sepp will need to give a presentation on the outcome of the measurements at the Steering Committee meeting in October.

What we have done today:

  1. Moved all the remaining equipment for the trenches down
  2. Organized cargo on the surface
  3. Made winter hills for the German sledges
  4. Moved the remaining food from the freshie shack to the main dome in foam boxes
  5. Taken the freshie shack weatherport down
  6. Remeasured all the balloon points
  7. Moved 4 drums with JetA1 to the apron for the GLISN project

Weather today: Overcast during night, blue sky all day with groundfog in the early morning hours. Temperatures -17 to -15ºC during night and day dropping to -27°C during the evening. Wind 5-10 kn with the direction changing from W to SW during the day.
