The midnight sun marks the end of a beautiful day.
Today was truly a beautiful day at EGRIP. First of all the weather was nice and calm and secondly a good production of ice cores was achieved. The drillers now have a useable electronics section, and we all hope it stays this way in the coming days and weeks. Having the electronics section online improves the control of the drill in the bore hole, which further improved the core quality. Logging such beautiful ice cores is a true pleasure here at EGRIP. The loggers note that there is still no issues handling the ice cores using the well-aligned setup in our nice cold logging cabin.
In the water isotope CFA lab, ice from a bit further up the core was melted today, gradually moving into the firn. The melting system still copes fine in this more porous ice. Also physical properties measurements and the surface program made steady progress.
What we did today:
Weather: Mostly sunny, but with a few light snow showers. Wind from SW up to to 6 m/s, further decreasing during the afternoon. Temperature between -21°C and -8°C.
