The drilling operation is now fully committed to reducing the inclination in the borehole.
The drilling operation is now fully committed to reducing the inclination in the borehole. Today a metal spring has been bolted to the green glass fiber core barrel near the drill head in an effort to recurve the hole back towards a smaller inclination. This is the first time such a device has been used on our drill. With the new drill software the drillers are able to determine whether or not the spring is oriented as desired down hole. After mounting the spring, the drillers started reaming the bore hole a time consuming operation.
Otherwise all science operations proceeded as planned, and we also had some time to enjoy a beautiful sight in camp: A falcon! The falcon seems to be particularly happy about one of our boxes on a cargo sled on the camp perimeter.
What we did today:
Weather: Sunny day. Wind turned from W to SW during the day, up to 5 m/s. Temperature between -24°C and -12°C.
