Another project finished

The group that has cleaned the many core troughs: Khanghyun, Nora, Andrew, Basile, Søren, Mayu og Helle.

During the past two weeks we have had to get through a pile of core troughs in bad need of cleaning, a tedious task as the troughs needs to be nice and smooth for our brittle ice core. Nora and Basile have taken the lead on this cleaning effort, supported by other people in camp when they had the opportunity. Finally today the end of the pile was reached, so a group picture of all the cleaners was in order.
We also had a new sight near camp: Ina, Jan and Wataru doing similar radar measurements here that they performed upstream yesterday. The other surface measurements being done near/in camp also progressed as planned.
In the trenches, one more set of curtains were installed, and the drillers continued drilling relatively short ice cores with the spring attached to the drill, in an effort to reduce inclination. In the logging cabin we had one cut with the saw damaging the core somewhat, so we now have to monitor closely if this repeats, indicating that the ice is turning too brittle for routine logging.

What we did today:

1. Servicing flexmobiles and catarpiller.
2. Deep drilling core length at 19.00: 8.36 m.
3. Logging depth at 19.00: 595.79 m.
4. Reaming of bore hole and drilling with new spring system near drill head.
5. Water vapour, methane, aerosols, snow and boundary layer measurements
6. Physical properties measurements.
7. Radar measurements near camp.
8. Installing curtains between science trench and elevator shaft.
9. Issuing a parking ticket to autonomous vehicle.
10. Finished the cleaning of core troughs.

Weather: Sunny day. Wind turned from W to SW during the day, up to 6 m/s. Temperature between -20°C and -8°C.
