Getting settled in

The new soda-machine is very popular – cold and sparkling water helps newcomers to acclimatize.


With such a big crew exchange there is need for establishing new drill groups, new logging groups, new science groups, new doctor and new surface program groups. On top of this new activities the Cryoegg program and GPS and drone program. In addition a film team from Germany children’s television Checker Tobi and a journalist from Japans news Asahi Shimbun will be here until 29 July.

What we did today:

  1. Deep drilling core length at 19.00 Sunday: 7.48 m.
  2. Drillers depth at 19.00 Sunday: 712.08 m.
  3. Water vapour, methane, aerosols, snow and boundary layer measurements.
  4. Physical properties measurements.
  5. Water isotope sampling for sublimation studies.
  6. Checker Tobi filming and Asahi Shimbun reporting.
  7. Unpacking equipment and starting the new activities.

Weather: Sunny with winds 2-7 m/s from SW and temperatures from -16°C to -8°C.
