A busy day for the doctor

After lunch Trevor cut himself on a glass that broke in his hand and later Andreas, the cook helper included a slice of his skin for dinner while using the mandolin cutter. Our doctor Kristian patched them both up. Kristian has used the evening shortening his trousers – his spouse would be pleased to hear he intends to use the sewing machine – after a 15 year break. All in all a busy day for Doc.

What we did today:

1. Deep drilling core length at 19.00: 9.48 m.
2. Drillers depth at 19.00: 732.56 m.
3. Water vapour, methane, aerosols, snow and boundary layer measurements
4. Physical properties measurements.
5. Water isotope sampling for sublimation studies.
6. Checker Tobi filming and Asahi Shimbun reporting.
7. Adding Swedish, Austrian and South Korean flags to the flagline
8. Cryoegg experiments continued
9. First GPS and Drone mission to the southern shear margin
10. Preparation of shallow drill and selection of site for the S3 core (75.61646N, 35.96299W)

Ad. 1: The core quality is still good with few breaks in the up to 2 m long ice cores. Impressive – drillers and loggers.
Ad. 8: Christine and Aslak have 2 Garmin-Inreach trackers with them so we can track their position every 10 min and receive messages from them enroute.

Weather: Sunny to overcast with winds from 4 to 7 m/s from SW and temperatures from -16°C to -1°C.
