Better weather. Still cold though.

Hans Christian is grooming the skiway.

The forecasts were a bit too pessimistic – and we are happy about that.
The wind went down during the night, and we woke up to a cold, but nice morning. We managed to finish two weatherports, and we are now ready to receive passengers on the plane tomorrow and the crew of the German Basler that may arrive tomorrow, too. Things take time in the cold, but Sverrir managed to get the water system going. Hans Christian spent the whole day grooming the skiway, while J.P. zipped up and down the skiway on snowmobile, resetting skiway markers and replacing broken ones. Bruno fixed the dishwasher and also participated in building weatherports along with Karl Emil, Sepp and Basile. Jens Christian worked on the LAN of camp, and Sarah made us very nice food.

What we did today:

  1. Pulled fuel tank into position next to main generator.
  2. Finished weatherport 8 and 9 (freshie shack).
  3. Main snow melter installed and in operation. Main dome now as service water.
  4. Fixed dishwasher.
  5. Skiway groomed. Skiway markers on skiway itself revised.
  6. Gained access to trenches by stairwell. Retrieved satellite communication equipment.

Ad.2: Camp now has beds for all arriving personnel (including the AWI Basler crew).
Ad.6: Drill trench looks fine. The roof in science trench will need trimming – but o.k.

Weather today: Mostly scattered thin clouds with short period of overcast, haze.  Temp. -30° C to -36° C.  Wind: 5 kt – to 3 kt from NNE turning to SE. Visibility: 3 km to unrestricted.
