Guests at EGRIP

In the evening photographer Kadir van Lohuizen gave a fantastic presentation of his pictures on sea level rise.


A flight day. The weather was perfect and we received Skier51 just before noon. We said goodbye to 9 from the camp and hello to 3 newcomers. We also host a group of 6 from the Villum foundation and a tv crew of lead by Kadir van Lohuizen. It is an honor to present our camp to our visitors. In the evening Kadir gave a show of his wonderfull pictures on sea level rise.

What we did today:

  1. Drilling of 20.2 m of ice core and retrieving 34 kg of slush through filtering.
  2. Logging of main core, depth at 19.00 today: 1538.67 m.
  3. No processing in the science trench due to crew exchange.
  4. Measurements in isotope laboratory to 1293.60 m.
  5. Measurements in physical properties laboratory to bag 2556 and and volume sample from bag 2600
  6. Water vapour sampling and measuring.
  7. Receiving skier 51 (1 pallet cargo + 8.000 l fuel)
  8. Hosting guests from the Villum Foundation and a Netherland TV crew (Kadir team).
  9. Goodbye to 9 from Eastgrip and welcome to 3 new Eastgrippers.

Weather: Slight ground fog in the morning, but turning sunny around lunch 8 am, and staying clear the rest of the day. Temperature -26 °C to -13 °C and wind from NW 9-12 kt.
