EGRIP Processing line in top gear

Science trench team bringing empty foam boxes down into the trench.

Today the processors in the science trench made 60 bags (33 m) so we can conclude that the team is in top shape. We are starting to see the Dansgaard Oeschger events so the cores are very interesting and have amazing cloudy bands. The need for empty foamboxes is strong with this processing speed and sometimes the pile of boxes ‘overflows’.

What we did today:

  1. Continuing to filter the borehole, since Sunday morning 14 filter runs has recovered 330 kg (wet) chips.
  2. No main core to log (depth still 1664.04 m)
  3. Processing bag 2950 in the science trench.
  4. Measurements in isotope laboratory to bag 2528.
  5. Measurements in physical properties to bag 2876.
  6. Installation of GPS net around the RADIX site, 27 km NW of camp.
  7. Straightened the side walls in the new storage balloon garage and enlarged the entrance to increase storage capacity.
  8. Moved empty foam boxes and shallow drill down into the storage balloon garage.

Weather: Overcast in the morning, but clearing after noon. Temperatures between -14 ºC and -2 ºC. The wind was between 0 and 6 kt, from 240-270T.

Camp population: 32
