Preparations for close down of EGRIP 2018

The main activities during the next two weeks is to test the Mills Cross Radar and close the camp for pull out August 23rd. As one of the first tasks we need to ensure that there is 30-40 cm space between the trench walls and roofs and the cabins and ice core buffer in the trenches. Iben has taken the task to remove snow above the roof of the logger cabin.

What we did today:

  1. Removed ice over the logger cabin in the trenches.
  2. Emptied the top floor in the Carpenters Garage and placed mattresses, tents and bunk beds there (documented).
  3. Tested a set of transmitting and receiving radar panels for the Mills Cross Radar.
  4. Repaired dish washer and installed fire alarm in Dome with a day and night switch.
  5. Installed an extra network in the WP with the radar setup using the Rocket Disc’s

Weather: Overcast in the morning, clearing in the evening. Temperatures between -16ºC and -11ºC. Wind between 4 and 12 kt mainly from 230T.
