Last drilling and processing day

Happy Science Trench Team.

The last day of drilling and processing has been reach and while being anticipated it is also strange to see your whole day occupation stop. The camp dynamic changed from being dedicated groups working in organized circles to be a gang of ‘dayworks’ looking for jobs. There is quite a lot to do, so all have been busy packing, documenting and doing inventory.

What we did today

  1. Drilled 6.46 m in 2 runs (runs 790-791) from Sunday 19:00 to Monday 02:00
  2. Filter runs all day
  3. Main core logged to 1767.57 m (final depth in 2018)
  4. Cores processed to bag 3199
  5. Last Vapour Drone flight with vapour sample bottles
  6. Packing in the PP lab
  7. Last sampling at the Surface Program, packing
  8. Grooming of skiway
  9. Science Evening

Ad 9. Eight presentation from the science trench to surface activities ending with Vostok and Chinese expedition presentations. GREAT.

Weather: Strong ground fog in the morning clearing to blue sky.
Temperature between -22 ºC and -10 º C. Wind between 8 and 10 kt mainly from 240 T.

Camp population: 32

Dan has been placing small pictures in the logging cabin to cheer the loggers.

There is 8-10 cm new snow on the skiway from the snow fall last week. Sverrir is grooming the skiway.
