JSEP high school students making thin sections (left) and measuring the snow pit wall (right)
This was the great science day for the 20 JSEP high school students. The group was divided in three teams with the activities: 1) drill a short surface ice core, 2) study a snow pit wall and identify annual layers and the 2012 melt layer and 3) a tour of EGRIP followed by working with the EGRIP scientists processing 2100 m deep ice cores 50.000 years old.
We all enjoyed the curiosity and interest of the high school students. THANKS.
It was also a remarkable day as the last ice drilled in 2019 was processed. The ice core buffer is now empty except of the last bit of ice (ventebørgen) to be fit with the next ice core to be drilled next year. A great CONGRATULATIONS to the many ice core processers who have been here this year. To top up on the good experiences our two cooks Kevin and Frederik made amazing pizzas for all 55 in camp for dinner.
What we did during the day:
EGRIP population is 55
Weather: Wind between 2kts and 9kts N to NW. Clear sky with clouds coming in in the evening. Temperatures from -19°C to -8°C.

The happy processing team celebrating the last ice core to process 2019. Next day the team will leave camp.
