Celebration of CFA 2000 m and 50 years for Apollo 11

CFA Water Stable Isotopes celebration of 2000 m

Saturday the CFA team processed ice from the depth 2000m. This is an amazing achievement – to be able to measure the water stable isotopes online in the field. GREAT CONGRATULATIONS to all the teams that háve worked hard in the CFA cabin. The CFA team is planning to measure all the drilled ice and reach the final depth 2122.42 m before end of the season. Thus, all ice is processed through all lines at EGRIP when we close this year and will be the last ice processed at EGRIP. It has been decided to process the ice to be drilled in 2020 at the AWI facilities in Europe because drilling of the hard ice together with the challenge of drilling into the fast deforming and warm basal ice might take time for the drillers. Saturday night dinner was prepared by Zurine, JC and Romain and was very delicious. Sunday, we had pizza for dinner and watched the new Apollo 11 movie in celebration of 50 years since the event happened. Only Bent, Sverrir and Dorthe remember the real event 50 years ago!

What we did during the weekend:

  1. CFA measurements of 29 bags, last bag 3661.
  2. PP measurements, Volume samples
  3. Station for atmospheric moisture sampling and isotopic measurement is active.
  4. Test runs with the Mills Cross Radar on 28 km line from camp to the RADIX site.
  5. Data processing of radar data – data looks excellent.
  6. Continued work on rover and the Lisa Box
  7. Replaced broken bolts in the Pisten Bully belts
  8. Repair of washing machine and dishwasher (Sunday morning of cause)
  9. Tested Anais Temperature probe – waiting for a calm and overcast day for measurements

EGRIP population is 23

Weather: Wind from 5kts to21kts with increasing wind speeds Sunday night. Wind around SW all weekend and changing cloud conditions from full overcast to blue sky. Temperatures from -11°C to -3°C .
