Rover on the ice

The Rover exploring the snow surface in camp

As a pilot project Zurine and JC are working on the development of an autonomous rover. The rover can be programmed to drive a route over the surface and changing instrumentation can be placed in the foambox. This year Zurine has installed a camera to look at the snow on the surface.
This is a project which is related to observations of the surface of Mars. So – take care in camp – when the rover is driving around.

What we did during the day:

  1. CFA measurements of 32 bags, last bag 3781.
  2. PP measurements of bags with easy breaks (bag 3311) close to the depths, where the superbanger was used to break the cores and the hard break at bag 3273
  3. Station for atmospheric moisture sampling and isotopic measurement is active.
  4. Finalized the temperature logging of the 135 m deep S3 borehole for Anais
  5. Working on the radar data
  6. First tests with Ultra wide band EGRIP radar.
  7. Drilling at the S5 site (shear margin ice core). Depth 35.25 m
  8. Taking spare bunk beds down in weatherports
  9. Prepare the take down of the staircase to the trenches
  10. Arranged and tidied 2T and motor oil in mechanic garage

EGRIP population is 23

Weather: Wind decreasing from 8 kts to 2 kts during the day. Wind skifting from W to NW. A sunny day. Temperatures between -18 °C and -3 °C.
