Final logging of the borehole

Dorthe logging the borehole in the drillers cabin

AS the last activity in borehole this year the borehole was logged. The Danish borehole logger was slowly lowered down through the 2120 m deep borehole and measured temperature, inclination, azimuth, diameter and pressure on it’s way down. It is still not possible to see any deformation of the borehole when comparing inclination and azimuth with the previous loggings. The temperatures still reflect the surface temperatures of the liquid poured in the hole and the heating from drilling and pulling the cores free. The diameter has some odd zones 3-10 m long with diameters increased from 130 mm to 138 mm at a depth of 1750 to 1920 m that need to be investigated. Down hole logging started at 9:00 in the morning and ended after midnight.

What we did during the day:

  1. CFA measurements of 39 bags, last bag 3820.
  2. PP measurements of bags 3693 and 3785.
  3. Packing of DEP electronics and LineScan
  4. Station for atmospheric moisture sampling and isotopic measurement is active.
  5. Collecting a radar line with the AWI RAMAC 500 MHZ radar from EGRIP to the Shear margin shallow ice coríng site and 4 km beyond.
  6. Working on the radar data
  7. Tests with Ultra wide band EGRIP radar.
  8. Assembling the L-band Radar
  9. Arranging all the drill liquid drums on the surface for overwintering
  10. Preparing for the removal of the cable on the deep drill winch after borehole logging
  11. Work on the Rover
  12. Successfully melting cores on the Lisa box .

EGRIP population is 23

Weather: Low wind between 2 kts and 6 kts. Wind skifting from WNW to WSW. A sunny day. Temperatures between -20 °C and -8 °C.
