L-band radar

Recording with the L-band radar pulled by the PistenBully.

The last radar to test at EGRIP is the L-band radar operating at the very high frequency of 1.2 GHz. This gives a high vertical resolution of 15 – 20 cm. It is the very first test and a ‘sledge’ was prepared in camp from what was available. The base is a Catamaran-Nansen sledge, the two radar elements are supported by zarges boxes, tower elements and cargo straps. It was tested at very low speed , 1 km/hr so we could see the PistenBully and Radar creep around camp all day. Stephen was very happy with the results.

What we did during the day:

  1. Packing in the PP cabin
  2. Packing in the Surface tents
  3. Working on the radar data
  4. Test of L-band radar
  5. Work on the Rover and testing the camera with ‘Marsian’ dust on the snow
  6. Successfully melting of the last cores on the Lisa box.
  7. Drone tent down
  8. Surface tower down
  9. Timber sledge organized
  10. Weatherport 8 down
  11. Moved science boxes to the pallet area

EGRIP population is 23

Weather: Wind 10 kts dropping to 6 kts. Wind direction SW all day. Sunny broken overcast with temperatures between -15 °C and -3 °C.
