Goodbye to 18

Skier 31 at EGRIP

Finally the day came with a mission to EGRIP. The first pull-out mission was planned for 7 August so it has been a long wait – but the circumstances have also been unusual. Departure of the Skier from Kangerlussuaq was late – 16.35 – and many at EGRIP had already given up having a mission this Tuesday. When the Skier was enroute the camp became very active hauling ice core boxes up from the trenches and non-freeze equipment from the warm generator cabin. The mission went really well with an impressive take-off from camp. Thanks to the Skier 31 crew and all supporting the Skier.

What we did during the day:

  1. Take the cooks snow melter down
  2. Taken down the two last Arctic Oven tents
  3. Placed ice core boxes and non-freeze science boxes on pallets #1 and #4 and closed pallets
  4. Received skier 31
  5. Used incoming pallets to finalize cargo line and pallets for the last mission

EGRIP population is 5

Weather: Wind 5 kts to 9 kts. Wind from SW. Sunny with temperatures between -23°C and -13 °C.
