Day two at EGRIP

Finally, this afternoon we’ve got a Pistenbully out.

After a very cold night, we woke up in a slightly warmer dome. People were allowed to sleep in after the long night before. During the day, mood in camp has improved with rising temperatures in the dome. And with the drain system now in place, people do not have to venture outside all the time. Frederik cooked a nice supper with lots of vegetables and some pork. Chris spent the whole day with the snowblower to excavate a ramp to the carpenters garage and in the end Chris and Sverrir got one of our pistenbullys out. Everybody is sleeping in the dome; but tomorrow that may change as we plan to open two tomato cabins. Bo, Thomas and Anna-Maria were digging in the snow for almost lost power outlets. They failed to find one! Mood in camp is now good and temperature in the kitchen approaches 20°C and in the cuppola it is 21°C.

What we did today:

  1. Searching for the electrical cable to the food weatherport – where is it?
  2. Finding most electrical outlets to weatherports.
  3. Excavating ramp to carpenters garage and got the crane Pistenbully out.
  4. Reopening drains in the main dome.
  5. Setup openport satellite communications. Field leader can now send and receive e-mails. Camp members can make phone calls.
  6. Setting up weatherstation.
  7. Now three snowmobiles and one snowblower running.

Ad.1: Even with picture documentation from 2019, we have so far failed to find the power outlet between WP 8 and the food storage.

Weather today: Clear blue skies. Temp. -35°C to -25°C. Wind: 8 kt to 16 kt from W. Visibility: Unrestricted. Some drifting snow along surface.
