We’ve got internet!

Our new link to the world. Satellite dish now connected to the internet.

This afternoon, the whole camp got internet access. People’s phones sprang to life via a wifi link. In the coming days, it is going to be interesting to see if this affects social life in camp. Logistically and safety wise it is a huge improvement. We can look up manuals and spareparts directly and we have a much better phone connection. Our cook, Kevin C., had a treat for us tonight: Reindeer with cream potatoes with beans and vegetables. Kevin makes sure that everybody gets good food, even those with special dietary needs. And he bakes bread! Fresh rolls in the morning. Good food is an important part of creating a good mood in camp.

What we did today:

  1. Two successful drone flights. Sampling went fine.
  2. One successful 4.5 hour radar mission with Polar 5. Data look good.
  3. Megatrench pit studies.
  4. Mechanic’s garage removed from hole and new berm is built.
  5. EGRIP now has internet. Field leader has IP-phone: +45 77 34 74 45. EGRIP webcam: http://alice.egrip.camp
  6. Finished casting 3m entrance to storage cave.
  7. Composing retro cargo for next week.
  8. Excavation of new inclined ramp to drill trench in progress.

Weather today: Fine all day. Temp. -20°C to -13°C. Wind: 6-10 kt from SW. QNH 1010 hPa. Visibility: Unrestricted.
