Ice Crystals

Ice crystals.

While packing down, Nico unpacked the C-axis and LASM instruments and measured the very last bag of this year. It is interesting that the crystal size´has increased significantly but the girdle fabric is still present. This might be a sign that the ice to a depth of 2400 m still is flowing as a block. It will be exciting to come back next year and ‘see’ the last 250 m of ice.

What we did today:

  1. Finalized the seismic experiments and recovered the optical cable from the borehole
  2. Documented frozen food in cook’s freezer
  3. Taken down the first Weatherport
  4. Built empty drum pallet
  5. Documented in trenches and carpenters garage
  6. Enjoyed Martins South America picture show and story during the evening

21 in camp (since July 26th)

Weather today: Morning and evening fog lifting during the day to overcast. Wind between 2-12kt from W veering to N/NE. Temperatures between -11 and -9°C.
