Today the drillers mounted the new bore hole camera insert in the bore hole drill. This was done both to test the camera and to calibrate the instrument section of the drill so any changes in inclination of the bore hole can be monitored frum drill run to drill run. The camera casing kept tight and monitored the descend nicely until it entered the drill liquid that seemed not to be transparent enough for the current setup with the light source being suspended somewhat below the camera.
At 650m the test was stopped, as this depth was sufficient for the inclination calibration to be performed.
After the test the load cell was calibrated and a version of the deep drill was mounted, but drilling was postponed for tomorrow as the core barrel was observed to be slightly bend.
On the surface, Sverrir and Sepp worked on getting the partly buried fuel tanks next to the apron brought to the surface and on grooming the apron. They also cleared the ramp to the drill trench using the Pistenbully snowblower. Finally, Sverrir worked late to get our air plane fuel pumps serviced in anticipation of next weeks flights. Also on the surface Emma, Iben and Nico managed to clear the tracks of both our Flexmobiles of snow. In the doctor’s clinic Anna-Maria kept busy organizing our medical supplies.
What we did today:
Weather today: Sunny. Temp. -30°C to -16°C. Wind: 11-16 kt from SW. Visibility: Unrestricted.
