Filtering and attempting logging the borehole

Tim fueling the caterpillar before touring camp to lift air force pallets out of drift snow.

After some runs last Friday where the drill had problems to engage and where the amount of chips brought to surface was too small, it was decided to filter the borehole Saturday. Two filter run brought large amounts of chips up. Unless it becomes possible to capture more chips when drilling, it may be necessary to filter the hole on a regular basis. Sunday, it was planned to log the hole to follow temperature, borehole inclination etc, but unfortunately, it showed up that the drill tower has come out of alignment, so that it scrapes the wall when being tilted, so now there are some adjustments to be made before the logging can be done, hopefully tomorrow.
Saturday Palle, Josie and Grant tested the acoustic Pinger for drill liquid level determination on the lid of the borehole. The setup appears to work, but there are still improvements to be made, and the mounting on the lid may be a challenge. To be continued. Sunday, Nico and Yannick went on a skidoo trip 22 km out of camp to pick up an Autonomous phase-sensitive radar (ApRES) that was deployed at the northern shear margin since last summer. Tim went around camp with the caterpillar and rescued pallets that had drifted partly in. Hans set up a 1.4 km running path that will help to raise the fitness level in camp even further. This comes on top of the indoor workout sessions and the outdoor volleyball matches that involves the entire camp.
Otherwise, it has been a bit of a gourmet weekend. Friday night Emil prepared delicious reindeer roast with white asparagus. Saturday night, Hans and Søren together with numerous helpers served a tasty Danish classic menu: Shrimp cocktail, the Danish national dish ‘Stegt flæsk med persillesovs’ (roast pork with parsley sauce) and halibut for vegetarians followed by Danish apple cake for dessert (not really a cake, but super tasty). We are currently being considered for uptake in the Michelin guide as one of very few restaurants in Greenland.

What we did during the weekend:

  1. Two filter runs on Saturday, and attempted borehole logging Sunday.
  2. Logging depth: 2519.54 m. Processing depth: 2516.8 m.
  3. Rescued and lifted pallets out of drift snow with Cat.
  4. Tested drill liquid level acoustic Pinger on borehole lit.
  5. Generator check Sunday morning @10.
  6. Picked up ApRES radar from northern shear margin.
  7. Prepared 1.4 km running path to raise camp fitness level.

Weather: Fairly nice weather over the weekend, just good enough for outdoor volleyball. Temperatures -16°C to -26°C. WSW wind 6-11 kt dropping to calm wind a bit in all directions Sunday afternoon. At the same time overcast and very light snow showers.

Job done 😊.
