Electrical shorts

Burnt plugs on the pictures to the left and middle and a repaired plug to the right.

After a week with problems with the electrical connectors between the cable and the top of the drill, Martin has found a way to improve the connections around the slip ring and the pressure tight military graded plugs that survived todays lowering of the bailer and the camera to the bottom and up again. The back of the plug is filled with epoxy so no liquid can reach the connections. Maybe a long-time forgotten trick also used by Niels Gundestrup? This brings hope to use that we will be able to lower the rock drill down without shortening and burning around the plugs and slipring.
The borehole camera again had a lot of material sticking to the lens but during one of the times we lowered we could see something that most likely is rock…
It was the last evening in camp for Ilka, Eliza, Aira and Jinhwa. Aira did not manage to finish her igloo – even with the help of Meg and Trevor, but spent her last night in the igloo with an open view to the sky.

What we did today:

  1. Borehole camera and bailer lowered to bottom of drill hole again.
  2. No electrical short on top plug and slip ring.
  3. Last repairs on DK new logger.
  4. Continued to drill cores through the inclined entrance and drill trench to check roof thickness.
  5. Agreed on cargo to camp and from camp for the July 14th mission.
  6. Prepared pallet and Flexmobile for the Skier.
  7. Repair of dishwasher.
  8. Continued building an igloo.

Weather today: Overcast to blue sky. Wind between 0 kt and 11 kt turning from N to SSW. Temperatures between -10°C and -5°C.
