Summer at EGRIP

Martin repairing plugs and connectors AGAIN from the top of the drill.

The last days have really been summer days at EGRIP. The temperatures have been just some degrees below the melting point and there has been no wind. It was really wonderful to have a barbeque outside with deer, lamb, pork and beef prepared and grilled by Chiara. Meg had made ginger ale and we had a glass with the dinner. Steff and Trevor were stuck in the drillers cabin with the slow rock drilling and had dinner served in the drill trench.

What we did today:

  1. Problems with shorts in the electrical connectors at the top of the drill.
  2. Drilled a second rock drilled core.
  3. Documented and repacked equipment in carpenters garage.
  4. Grooming skiway.
  5. Packed drill equipment.
  6. Enjoyed barbeque in the good weather.

Ad 2: The 70 cm rock drilled core consists mostly of ice with a few pebbles. The rock drill is not made for drilling ice so it basically melts it’s way down. It takes around 8 hours to drill a 70 cm core….

Weather today: Groundfog in the early morning. Thin overcast most of the day. Wind between 0 kt and 4 kt from S. Temperatures between -11°C and -1°C.
