A windy day

The GRIP team leaving Summit Station two days ago together with the other science team (PROHIRA) at Summit. As the weather didn’t allow for outside activities this picture is from the first day we went to the GRIP site.

Early in the morning the wind speed increased to over 20 kt and made it unpleasant to work outside. This didn’t allow us to leave Summit station. Instead, we used all day to have a closer look at the 500 MHz and 800 MHz radar data we have collected so far, looked at some old maps + pictures, scientific papers from the GRIP project back in time and have come up with a plan for how we will continue our work at the GRIP site. Tomorrow the weather forecast seems good again and we look forward for get back to the GRIP site.

What we did today:

  1. Analyzed our collected radar data further.
  2. Looked into old pictures/maps and data from GRIP site.
  3. Made a plan for Monday.

Weather today: Windy and overcast day. Wind 11-28 kt turning from ESE to E. Temperatures between -33°C and -18°C.

The GRIP team: Daniel Steinhage, Tamara Gerber, Iben Koldtoft

Radio Echo Sounding of one of the U-shaped profiles (50 m line – 50 m turn – 50 m line) collected with the 500MHz radar. Likely some structures from the drill dome is visible.
