Leaving Summit Station

The GRIP team in front of Big House at Summit Station before departure to Kangerlussuaq. On the left side of us, in front of all the flags, is the Danish shovel, which we gave to Summit Station for their good hospitality.

Today we flew to Kangerlussuaq. We are disappointed we did not managed to find the borehole casing, but we hope that the data we have collected will be helpful for a second attempt in finding the casing top and checking its state with a borehole camera later this summer.

In Kangerlussuaq we meet with the EastGRIP put-in team. While we unpacked some of our equipment, they finished their last cargo for planned put-in at EGRIP camp tomorrow. We also had a chance to talk about our data and findings at GRIP with the EGRIP team.

We want to thank Summit Station for hosting us and National Science Foundation, Polar Field, Air National Guard, AWI, Green2Ice and EastGRIP for all their support the last two weeks.

What we did today:

  1. Station morning meeting at 7.30am.
  2. Travelled from Summit Station to Kangerlussuaq.
  3. Meet the EGRIP put-in team in Kangerlussuaq.
  4. Discussion on finding at GRIP with EGRIP team.
  5. Sorting our equipment back into the storage.

Weather today: Sunny day. Wind 9-13 kt turning from S to SE. Temperatures between -43°C and -28°C.
