“Ice-fishing” with a crane-equipped Pistenbully reaching down the elevator shaft. Right: Sverrir proudly presenting the “catch”: One EGRIP elevator!
Moving up Saturday also means moving up Sunday, so we can have a nice “Sunday” brunch after the “Saturday” dinner party. Once again Astrid and Martin treated us to a delicious brunch, to start out a busy day. With deep drilling over, all that remains is to filter the deep bore hole, and pack up everything in the drill trench. As filtering is mostly a one person job, all other available hands helped out with the packing of equipment. A daunting task, that we need to get done in short order, as much of the equipment is scheduled to be flown out just 5 days for now.
Sverrir and Sepp also worked on packing down, focusing on the elevator to the trenches. The crane Pistenbully is used to elevate the elevator parts out of the trench, another delicate operation. Dorthe was also busy packing up today, getting the logger rig disassembled and the bore hole loggers packed, while Bo got 2 days’ worth of packed snow out of the ceilometer, so we again can get observations of cloud heights. The day ended with a movie in the dome.
What we did today:
Weather today: Mostly cloudy with a few sunny spells. Temp. from -25°C to -18°C. Wind: Up to 4-12 kt from NNW turning WNW during the day. Visibility: Changing and sometimes unrestricted. More than 1 mile at all times.
It can be both a very welcome and spectacular view when the sun comes back after a storm. Here a beautiful halo during our “Saturday” dinner party.
