Ready

The main generator goes into hibernation in its insulated box on a sledge on a snow hill

Today the last sledges were moved up on snow hills for overwintering, the last cables were pulled out of their under-snow tunnels, the drinking water system was closed down, the Pistenbully was parked in its garage, and the last pallet was netted. The skiway is in perfect conditions and the weather is great for flying. We are so ready to be picked up... BUT the weather forecast is not great, the Skiers have a delayed arrival in Kangerlussuaq from the US, and experience from previous years tells us that nothing can be taken for granted in this situation. The good news is that we have enough food in the freezer to survive another month or two, and we are not running dry of meltwater either.

What we did today:

  1. Prepared Weatherport power cables for next year
  2. Finalised pallet with Knut’s radar equipment
  3. Moved sledges onto snow hills
  4. Switched to backup and turned off main generator
  5. Did not touch the perfect skiway
  6. Worked on documentation
  7. Discussed the weather for the coming days

Weather today: After a morning with ground fog the day turned out very sunny, temperatures from -18 °C to -6 °C. Wind 0-10 kt from SW turning W.
