Leaving EGRIP via Summit station

A final goodbye from the last 2024 EGRIP team on arrival in Kangerlussauq: Sepp, Mori, Nicholas, Anders S, Martin, Grant, Iben, Lee, Kyra, JP, Sverrir, Knut, Andrew, and Anders KH

Today we did not have optimal flying conditions at EGRIP, but a very determined crew landed the Skier under marginal conditions just before 1 pm. After having closed down camp and loaded the plane, the Skier needed three attempts to get airborne with fresh sticky snow on the skiway and a heavy load of pallets and passengers. For the last attempt the Skier continued beyond the skiway into the open snow and finally fired a set of rockets (ATOs) to gain additional speed and get us airborne. The take-off was only possible because the plane was light on fuel, so light that the return to Kangerlussuaq was only possible with a fueling stopover at the American Summit station very close to the summit of the Greenland ice sheet. Thank you Summit for helping us out! After having fueled at Summit it was again difficult to take off due to the fresh snow on the skiway and it took several attempt to get airborne, but finally we were airborne and could return on a scenic flight back to Kanger. Thank you 109th for all of your efforts today to get us out of EGRIP!
